Pickling lines are responsible for removing rust and scale from hot-rolled strips. The process is based on making the belt pass through hydrochloric acid baths that dissolve surface oxides. The pickling process depends largely on the chemical composition of the material, the temperature of the baths, the agitation of the baths, the acid concentration and the length of the tanks.
FAGOR ARRASATE’s engineering department analyses each case and proposes the optimum solution. In the most modern systems, each bath is equipped with its corresponding nozzles and the tanks are separated by feed rollers. Chemical pickling lines remove the three existing oxide layers: ferric, ferrous and ferric-ferrous. These lines work in a Push-Pull fashion. Each coil is threaded from the unwinder along the line and, with the help of pinch rollers, the tip is carried to the rewinder. The belt then acquires a certain tension and begins to operate at process speed. When a coil is finished, the same operation begins with the next one.
