In 2022, the Fagor Group has allocated a total of 2,782,280 euros from the Social Fund for the promotion and support of initiatives that pursue the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. As has become customary, exceeding the 10% percentage set by law, the Group has allocated 12% of its annual profits to both internal initiatives and projects arising in Debagoiena (Gipuzkoa), the Basque Country and other places in the international sphere that seek community development. „The Fagor Group remains closely linked to the community, and acts with social commitment. It understands that it is up to it to provide the means and create the right conditions to successfully meet the needs and challenges of each moment. Today, it is working towards the Sustainable Development Goals and community development,“ explains Aritz Otxandiano Kanpo, Head of Sustainability at the Fagor Group.
In 2022, Fagor has promoted initiatives aimed at the cooperative group’s community for a total amount of 663,043 euros. Specifically, it has allocated an amount of 578,362 euros to the Basque language plans of the cooperatives, with the aim of continuing to deepen the normalization of the Basque language and guarantee its members the possibility of working in this same language. In addition, it has allocated 54,584 euros to the Fagor Elkarrekin tool, created to promote volunteering and various social initiatives; and 30,097 euros to the Fagor Mugi application, created to promote the use of sustainable means of transport (bicycle, public transport, car sharing…).
The Group has also allocated 1,733,107 euros to Debagoiena initiatives. On the one hand, it has helped with 937,860 euros to the sustainability network Debagoiena 2030, and continues to be the main promoter and driver of the initiative, with which it collaborates with public and community agents to work for the ecological and sustainable transition of Debagoiena. Specifically, it participates in the bodies and dynamics of the sustainability network, and subsidizes several projects promoted by it, such as, for example, Eraginez Piztu, which includes projects aimed at energy transition. Likewise, the Fagor Group has allocated 602,460 euros to the Gizabidea Foundation, ratifying its support to the cooperative educational agents in the region, as it is the main founding trustee of the Foundation. Thus, through Gizabidea, the Fagor Group has supported, among others, the Torrebaso 2030 project of Arizmendi Ikastola and the Hirekin innovation and entrepreneurship center. On the other hand, it has supported other social agents in Debagoiena with a total of 192,787 euros.
And beyond Debagoiena, in 2022, the Fagor Group has continued to collaborate with projects arising in other territories of the Basque Country. In total, it has allocated 145,146 euros, of which 120,000 euros have been distributed through Fagor Herrigintza, a collaborative program recently created to provide its own innovative response to the Sustainable Development Goals. Specifically, after having assessed the various proposals submitted by social agents and culminating a voting process in which the members of the cooperatives have participated, the Fagor Group has helped Zaporeak (60,000 euros), Salvamento Marítimo Humanitario (40,000 euros) and Seaska Ikastola (20,000 euros). It has also allocated 25,146 euros to other initiatives in the Basque Country.
The cooperative group also continues to support international projects. In 2022, it has once again promoted projects of the Mundukide Foundation and the Garabide association. Specifically, the Foundation has received a grant of 230,984 euros to continue working for community development in developing countries. For its part, Garabide received a grant of 10,000 euros to continue sharing its experience in the normalization of the Basque language with communities in the process of recovering minority languages.
