FAGOR ARRASATE SPONSORS ADVANCED ROBOTICS

Fagor Arrasate collaborates with Mondragón Goi Eskola developing a robot for the First Tech Challenge

Fagor Arrasate event: FAGOR ARRASATE SPONSORS ADVANCED ROBOTICS

Fagor Arrasate is one of the main sponsors of ; Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa ; which will participate with its Robotek team in the European First Tech Challenge FTC, a contest aimed to develop robotics. It will take place at Eindhove, Holland, next March, 29th. This international competition is aimed to students, 18 to 23 years old, who have to design, manufacture, assembly and programming a robot able to work both in autonomous mode as in telecontrolled mode following some determined rules. MGEP is the only University in the Basque Country attending the mentioned Contest and will compete against 40 teams from Germany, Holland, United Kingdom or Russia among 50 countries. In the previous classifications, as much as 2300 teams have competed. Eleven students and 4 Teachers form the Robotek team. They have developed a very advance robot able to do all the tasks that these machines have to complete during the contest.

Robotek is the current Eurpoean Champion for robots designing

Tasks that are simple for human become really complicated when must be done by robots and, in this Championship, these robots will have to demonstrate that are able to introduce boxes in a container moving in a pendulum-line path as well as raise a flag or hung themselves from a bar. During the last trials it was proved that these tasks are perfectly achieved. To be able to do all that, the robot includes a powerful electronic and several sensors, particularly color and proximity sensors. Control is based in a previous developed system but the number of motors has gone from 3 to 5 with a servomotor controlling position at all moments. Mechanical design has been totally designed new from scratch.

Robotek team of Mondragon Goi Eskola is the current European Champion as it won the contest last year. Also, in 2013, Robotek was awarded with the prize to the best robotic design. The team participated in the World Championship that took place in Los Angeles. If this year, the get the victory again they will go the World Championship in Saint Louis, USA.

Fagor Arrasate is always deeply committed with the promotion of technological training as well as with the development of new technologies, therefore sponsoring of Robotek team is a prove of this commitment.
