RESEARCH FUND FOR COAL & STEEL
Project nº:101033991-HATFLAT
PROJECT FUNDED BY EUROPEAN COMMISION UNDER THE GRANT AGREEMENT 101033991 AND THE CALL RFCS-2020
HOLISTIC ASSISTANCE FOR CROSS-PROCESS ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION OF STRIP AND PLATE FLATNESS In flat steel production, flatness of steel strips and plates is of paramount significance for a safe and stable process operation and essentially defines final product quality. Although local flatness is controlled successfully during rolling, many steel plants face significant flatness problems for thin and/or high-strength steel products in downstream processes and after production. HatFlat investigates cross-process influences on the development of flatness defects. Using digital twins and the novel combination of classical first-principle models and machine learning methods, a holistic understanding is achieved, and most sensitive process parameters are identified. An assistance software will be developed, that supports operators to improve flatness.

REPUMP: ENERGY-EFFICIENT REMANUFACTURING OF HYDRAULIC PRESSES
ACTION CO-FINANCED BY IHOBE, A PUBLIC COMPANY OF THE BASQUE GOVERNMENT, AND THE EUROPEAN UNION THROUGH THE EUROPEAN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND 2014-2020 (ERDF).
A modular hydraulic drive based on a technology without load losses that improves the energy efficiency of the hydraulic presses as well as advanced control necessary to achieve it. This new technology will improve the life cycle and end-of-life phases of presses and affect the design and production of new presses.
The R+D project ALU-AyA, carried out by FAGOR ARRASATE S.COOP and entitled Development of a new wide cut-to-length line for high-strength aluminium for the Aeronautics and Automotive sector, has been co-financed with ERDF funds and subsidised by the Basque Government.
The Alu-AyA project aims to develop an innovative line of high-strength aluminium cross-cutting products for the aeronautical and automotive sectors.
A wide line is being developed due to the requirements of the aeronautical sector, which uses very wide formats for the whole fuselage area.
The automotive industry has not usually required such large widths until now, but it seems that introducing these dimensions allows for more possibilities and better use of the material.
This will lead to a substantial reduction in the weight of vehicle bodies and structural components in the aviation sector, which will contribute positively to an increasingly sustainable transport model.
The R&D project carried out by FAGOR ARRASATE S. COOP., entitled Development of an Autonomous MULTI-BLANKING LINE with Self-Adaptive Functions and Integrated Self-Management Systems, has been co-financed with ERDF funds and subsidised by the Basque Government.
The MB-AGES project aims to develop next-generation machinery for the production of MULTI-BLANKING formats, intended for structural elements in the automotive sector. To that end, the project will implement advanced manufacturing technologies that will make it possible to achieve new product properties, greater production ranges, simplification of production facilities, lower environmental impact and greater sustainability; greater flexibility and versatility of the facilities and reduction of costs associated with investments and operating costs.
The R&D project carried out by FAGOR ARRASATE S. COOP. entitled PRESCRIPTIVE MANUFACTURING – ADVANCED ANALYTICAL SOLUTIONS FOR MANAGING RECONFIGURABLE PRODUCTIVE PROCESSES has been co-financed with ERDF funds and subsidised by the Basque Government.
The PREMIERE project aims for a complete digital transformation of industrial plants in order to achieve adaptable, flexible, efficient, self-healing, self-learning, fault-tolerant and risk-managing production resources which will contribute to (I) the reduction of defects whilst maintaining the productive rates and (II) the minimisation of energy consumption by means of optimised management.
It is a research and development collaboration project of a multiannual (2018 – 2020) strategic nature in which the following entities and/or agents of the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network are participating: CTI SOFT (project leader), VIXION, INGETEAM POWER TECHNOLOGY, FAGOR ARRASATE, FAGOR EDERLAN, SIDENOR, RPK, SPYRO I+D, TECNALIA, KONIKER, IK4-IKERLAN, EDERTEK, IK4-AZTERLAN and SIDENOR I+D.
The TBLine R&D project, carried out by FAGOR ARRASATE S.COOP and entitled Development of a new line for manufacturing Tailored Blanks from continuous welded coils, has been co-financed with FEDER funds and subsidised by the Basque Government.
The TBLine project aims to develop an innovative line for the manufacture of tailored welded blanks that is more economical and that allows the use of this technology in a large percentage of vehicle chassis reinforcement parts. This will result in the weight of the vehicles at the body-in-white stage being reduced by a large percentage, and, in turn, due to the downsizing effect, the engines and chassis parts should be lighter, which will contribute positively to an increasingly sustainable transport model.
The ECO-DESIGN project for the Punch Holder by FAGOR ARRASATE, part of the ELEKTROZULAKETA initiative, focuses on reducing the environmental impact of machine tools in industrial processes. By replacing the traditional hydraulic drive with a more efficient servo-electric drive, the project has achieved significant improvements, including a 30% reduction in energy consumption and the elimination of hydraulic oil use, leading to enhanced operational efficiency and a 34% reduction in CO₂ emissions.
Conducted in collaboration with IHOBE and MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA, this project aligns with broader European efforts to improve the environmental sustainability of the machine tool industry through innovation. The redesigned Punch Holder not only lowers the environmental footprint but also supports FAGOR ARRASATE’s commitment to sustainability in industrial manufacturing.
The R+D project carried out by FAGOR ARRASATE S.COOP entitled Digital products for technological promotion in industry and new advanced services has been co-financed with ERDF funds and subsidised by the Basque Government.
The PRODIGIOSA project aims to provide new digital 4.0 services that enable industrial companies to offer new concepts and products with high added value, through the development of an advanced multi-domain ICT solution, which maximises efficiency in the use of resources and data management in an intelligent manner, supported in particular by the technological pillars of IoT and Data Analytics.
The R&D project carried out by FAGOR ARRASATE S. COOP. entitled INDUSTRIAL SOLUTIONS THROUGH FLEXIBLE, COLLABORATIVE ROBOTICS FOR HANDLING AND TRANSPORT OPERATIONS IN INTRA-LOGISTICS has been co-financed with ERDF funds and subsidised by the Basque Government.
The KOBOT project aims to solve the problems associated with the needs posed by the handling and intra-logistics market in terms of efficiency, flexibility (responding to the requirements of high variability and/or low volumes to be handled and transported) and worker ergonomics during operations that require repetitive tasks or movement of high weights, all of which must comply with strict safety criteria.
