LASER CUTTING FROM COIL VS LASER CUTTING FROM BLANKS

 Improving material efficiency and productivity

Laser cutting from coil offers huge advantages in terms of cost and efficiency compared to conventional laser cutting from blanks

Less scrap. Optimized material utilization

When parts are placed in a blank for laser cutting, it is usually not possible to fill the entire blank with parts, which generates scrap that cannot be used. This amount of scrap is higher when cutting non-rectangular, and especially circular, parts. Continuous nesting greatly improves the efficiency of material usage. It is possible to handle the incoming sheet as infinite length, with no side edges, so it can be cut to length and joined blanks, eliminating that unused space between the parts and the edge.

Increased efficiency. Higher throughput

Laser cutting from coil allows continuous operation without interruptions. The process eliminates unnecessary pauses, so many more parts can be produced until a new coil is needed, resulting in higher production throughput and nearly 100% machine utilization. In contrast, laser cutting of blanks requires repeated stops to change blanks, resulting in significant production downtime and a consequent decrease in efficiency.

Lower material costs

Each blank comes from one reel. It is therefore possible to benefit from a significantly reduced purchase price for coils compared to blanks.

Fully automated parts and scrap removal

We offer different solutions that enable the removal of scrap or small parts directly from the laser cutting table, such as the new X-GAP system. This adaptive gap expansion system increases efficiency and opens up new possibilities to enable the evacuation of small and medium-sized parts and internal scrap parts. The maximum part size to be evacuated through the expanded gap is 700 mm (27 in) in diameter. Clean part removal and automatic cutting and sorting of scrap are just two examples of the many advantages offered by this device.

In addition, state-of-the-art management software for automatic job scheduling completes a package that will enable any company to obtain finished parts while reducing human intervention and job set-up times.

In short, coil-fed laser cutting is an emblem of modern manufacturing, combining efficiency with cost reduction while maintaining high production quality. It is not a passing fad, but an innovation that will define the future of manufacturing. For companies that want to outperform their competitors, investing in this technology is a strategic move that guarantees an advantage in a constantly evolving market.
