The Gestamp Palau plant has placed itself at the technological forefront with the incorporation of a new state-of-the-art servo transfer press and the total retrofitting, both electrical and mechanical, of another transfer press.
What is the aspect of your relationship with Fagor Arrasate that you value the most?
The aspect of the relationship with Fagor Arrasate that I value most is undoubtedly the after-sales service. As the person in charge of Maintenance, I have to admit that having a supplier like Fagor guarantees you that, when you have a problem, they are very reactive and always try to provide a correct and adequate solution in a fairly good amount of time.
How do you assess the solutions provided by Fagor Arrasate to the needs and challenges posed by Gestamp Palau?
The solutions provided by Fagor Arrasate to the needs of Gestamp Palau have been very positive. Whenever there has been a problem, a satisfactory solution has always been found for the plant. It is very positive to have collaborating companies that attend with flexibility to our needs.
Retrofit and equipment modernization
What is the degree of trust between Gestamp Palau and Fagor Arrasate and how important do you deem it to be?
Every business relationship requires a relationship of trust between the two parties. The human value of the group that participates in the project is fundamental, as it has been in the last projects carried out by Fagor Arrasate. We deem the relationship between Fagor Arrasate and Gestamp Palau to be very good.
We have started with a good basis of collaboration and cooperation in recent years, at all levels, between Fagor and Gestamp, and we have to continue working to maintain this level of excellence that we have achieved.
What is your opinion of the relationship with the Fagor Arrasate team?
The relationship with the account manager, the project manager and the Fagor technicians is very close and direct. We have worked side by side with them and we appreciate the human level approach, their trying to adapt to our needs and their flexibility.
How satisfied are you with Fagor Arrasate?
We have a pretty good relationship. We have to continue to deepen and improve the relationship, so that Fagor continues to be a supplier we can rely on in any circumstance.
How do you think Fagor Arrasate has contributed to Gestamp’s success?
Gestamp has been growing a lot in recent years. We currently have more than 100 production plants worldwide, more than 43,000 workers in 22 countries. Of course, in order to reach this path, it is necessary to have reliable partner companies, as in this case Fagor, which facilitates this path.
When Gestamp’s clients visit its plants, what impression do they get of Fagor Arrasate’s new machines?
The feeling of the customers and visitors we receive, when they see the new machine, is quite positive. The harmony and smoothness of the movement when in operation is very striking.
What are Gestamp Palau’s main needs in terms of equipment, such as productivity, versatility, reliability, etc.?
The overriding need we always have is to be extremely competitive. In order to do this, it is necessary to have equipment that guarantees all the processes, that is robust and stable.
Fagor Arrasate’s technology has so far helped us to achieve our goals. We hope that the new equipment we have implemented will help us make a difference.
What advantages do you see in the equipment and service of Fagor Arrasate in comparison with other equipment?
We are at a time when, on an industrial level, competitiveness between manufacturers has led to a narrowing of the technological gap. For me, it has been a differential fact to have a high value after-sales technical service.
Installation of new equipment often requires operator training. What has been the role of Fagor Arrasate in this training and how do you value the support received?
The role has been positive. It is clear that when new state-of-the-art equipment is implemented at the technological level, it requires an improvement in the training of plant personnel. Gestamp is a multinational company that fundamentally values the training and skills of its staff. Of course, the training and technical assistance sessions have been vital, in which Fagor Arrasate’s technical staff has transmitted to the plant’s personnel the necessary knowledge to continue growing.
Fagor gives you the guarantee that it is reactive when faced with a problem and provides you with an appropriate and rapid solution.
The press has undergone a global intervention, both mechanically and electrically. In the mechanical part, practically the whole press was dismantled, from the crown to the cushions. All the wear elements have been replaced: bushings, bearings, sealing elements, etc. At the electrical level, all the electrical cabinets and peripheral elements have been replaced, including the wiring. The transfer has been replaced, both mechanically and electrically, and the wiring has been completely replaced with the latest generation.
The new transfer press has meant a major leap forward in terms of equipment in the Gestamp Palau plant, we get fully into the world of servo presses and latest generation transfers. Now we have a flexible line that can work with both format and coil, that can work with transfer both with and without shearing, and can also work progressively.
